What Is Lumecca?

Lumecca by InMode is an Intense Pulse Light (IPL) that uses selective photothermolysis to treat pigmented and vascular lesions. The technology works by sending light through the skin and targeting melanin (for pigmented lesions) or hemoglobin (for vascular lesions). The absorbed light energy causes the lesion to fade during the days and weeks following treatment. Lumecca has the ability to decrease the appearance of pigmented and vascular lesions and improve macro-pores and fine lines while giving the skin a photo-rejuvenating look. Lumecca is safe for skin types I-IV.

Lumecca targets â€‹

  • Pigmented lesions: hyperpigmentation (such as age and sun spots), dyschromia, melasma, and freckles.

  • Vascular lesions such as port wine stains, facial, truncal, and leg telangiectasis, rosacea, erythema of rosacea, angiomas and spider angiomas, poikiloderma of Civatte, superficial leg veins and venous malformations.

Lumecca cannot be used over the upper eyelid or lips or in areas that have tattoos or permanent makeup.

How Many Treatments & Cost?

Patients on average need 2-5 treatment sessions every 3-4 weeks. Patients can see a 90% improvement after the first treatment. Vascular lesions typically require more treatment sessions than pigmented lesions. Once ideal results are achieved, a maintenance schedule of 1-2x per year is recommended to keep results.

Pre & Post Treatment Advice:

PRE-TREATMENT

Avoid any type of tanning 3-4 weeks prior to treatment or use at least 30 SPF sunblock. Avoid irritant topical agents for 2-3 days prior to treatment (HAs, SAs, and glycolic containing items). Avoid anticoagulants for 7-10 days prior to treatment if medically permitted. Come to the appointment with clean skin (no makeup or lotions). A cooling gel is used on the skin along with a cooling strip to the handpiece for comfort, patients can expect minimal pain but options for topical pain relief can be offered for treatment sessions. Areas that have high density of hair follicles may experience permanent or temporary hair loss.

POST-TREATMENT

No downtime with Lumecca treatments. Use SPF 30 or greater sunblock for 3 weeks following treatment. Makeup and moisturizers may be used immediately after treatment on intact skin. The lesions will get darker at first. Avoid picking, scratching, or exfoliating the treated skin for 5-10 days.
